While current Oscar power players “ Carol” and “ Spotlight” had a strong showing among this morning’s nominees - “Carol” leads all films with six nominations total, while “Spotlight” is tied for second place with “ Beasts of No Nation” with five - it looks like the Spirit Awards largely rejected some of the season’s big favorites in favor of worthy smaller titles.Ĭase in point: “Anomalisa” and “ Tangerine,” both of which walked away with four nominations in some of the biggest categories.
